From A to B

A year away from home
To finally find yourself and let him go
You're starting to learn
That you've always been so beautiful
But don't you let that get to your head
I've heard tell of how some stories like this end
You've cried your share of times
You'd laugh on hearing any of this advice
You're the expert on pain?
That's such a teenage thing to say
So you fled from the Florida coast
To start again and be somebody else up north
It's just like you to be
Anything but what you need
I'm not saying to listen to me because I'm older
I know what I'm talking about
I've seen it happen to girls that were close to me
They've become ghosts to me now

The Bird & Blanket
03:19
|
|||
A robin lay dead in your garden
Your daughter is far too young to comprehend
A bird is a bird
To a two year old girl
But you will explain it all later on to her
And looking on, gathering yarn
You're crocheting it into a blanket she'll fall asleep on
Calling your name
Until you look her way
She's getting impatient with you
But the blanket will keep you both warm

Would you say no
To a drive down
To the shoreline?
Maybe sometime soon we'll go
And at night
Over a cheap bottle of wine we'll sing
And you'd say that
You'd believe in everything
I sang since then
In time
Either you or I will grow tired of the other
And a note
Will be sent asking forgiveness
Explaining myself
And you'll say that
You believed in everything
I sang till then
I'm sorry that you're leaving
Have you been seeing somebody new?
Well we heard that you
Were moving to the West Coast now
And that you like it there and who you went with
But I heard from a friend
That it's not going so well
That you fight
That he yells
But as bad as I should have felt
To tell you the truth
It made me feel good to know that said
I'd never treat you like that
That's right
You should
So you finally understood
Now keep your distance
I don't want to have to sing
That you'd say that
You believed in everything I did or
That you'd say that
you believed in everything I sang since then

Little Heart
02:59
|
|||
You've got it all
Including that little heart of coal
That you found on the floor
When the devil snuck in
To your room late one evening
And stole it from you
Who'd really want
To be known as the girl
With the hole in her chest
So you let go and you gave in
Replacing it with that coal
Convinced that anything would do
I can see how hearts lose
Value when they're left at your door
By the neighborhood boys
And I'm sure it never helped that
To you it always felt like
Your parents were there just to keep them away
Now I smell tar and smoke
But before that coal
Takes control of your body
Know that if you want to I can help you pull it out
And I'll give you a half of mine to grow
Into a full one of your own
See I had my own coal
So I know that anything won't do
